Nigeria looks to technology in fake drug fight
13-Jul-2009Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) will offer training for its regulatory officers in a series of laboratory techniques useful in the fight against counterfeit medicines.
The training, scheduled to take place before the end of the year, will cover techniques included in the Minilab kit developed by the Global Pharma Health Fund as well as Raman spectroscopy, in particular the use of Ahura Scientific’s handheld Truscan device, according to a report published in This Day.
The aim is to equip officers working at border control checkpoints with the tools they need to stop counterfeit medicines entering Nigeria, according to Dr. Paul Orhili, Director General of the NAFDAC.
