Dubai Customs seize counterfeit medicines

02-Jun-2010

UAE seizureThe authorities in United Arab Emirates have seized several million counterfeit and illegal medicine doses from a warehouse in Dubai operated by a local company, according to a report in The Gulf Today.

The fake drugs were allegedly stored at the warehouse by a worker at the company without the knowledge of his employers, says the newspaper. The value of the haul is estimated at 70m dirham ($19m) and included Viagra, Levitra and a number of other lifestyle medicines and dietary/herbal supplements.

Dubai Customs announced the operation at a press conference on May 31.

Earlier this month customs also foiled a bid to smuggle over 8,000 illegal medicine tablets into the local market hidden inside electronics cargo. More information can be found at Dubai Customs' website.
