Public complain about dead rat advert

05-Mar-2009

More than 50 complaints have been lodged with the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority over a controversial advert warning of the dangers of buying medicines over the Internet.

The ad - shown in cinemas - shows a man regurgitating a dead rat after taking a pill purchased from an illegal website to emphasise the threat that fake drugs can contain dangerous ingredients.

It was sponsored by Pfizer, UK regulator the Medcines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and patient advocacy groups in response to research showing that more than 330,000 men buy prescription-only medicines from unregulated sources every year in the UK.
